Classes
Below are the classes we are offering at this time. Check back often as classes will vary from month to month. Please come in and sign up well before the first day of class as some classes will require that you have supplies to get started.
If you don't see the class you want, come in or call us to make a suggestion. We also offer a "Design your own class" option (see below).
Skill Level
Beginner - Cast on, Bind off, Knit, Purl
Advanced Beginner - Increases, Decreases, Pattern reading, Knit in the round, Pattern stiches
Intermediate - Cables, Simple lace knitting, Simple shaping, Color knitting, Beads
Advanced - Shaping, Blocking, Design elements
Class Policies
- Class fees should be paid before class.
- Materials or supplies should be purchased before class.
- If a student needs to cancel out of a class, fees will be refunded to account credit, providing the cancellation is made more than 24 hours before the beginning of class.
- If Yarns by the Sea needs to cancel a class for whatever reason, we will refund fees in cash or credit as desired by the student.

| Thursday night get-together for any kind of stitching. We were going to call it “Knit Night”, but the first week we had a crocheter, a needlepointer, and a cross-stitcher! Bring your group or come alone. We have tea and coffee; you are welcome to bring snacks if the spirit moves you. | ||

| DESIGN YOUR OWN CLASS | Fee: $10.00/participant/hour | |
| If your group has an idea of what you want to learn, come talk to us about designing your own class. If it is within our skill set, we will work with you to design a class to meet your needs. The sky is pretty much the limit on what you could choose: baby garments, a special scarf or sweater, a technique or stitch… Requirements: at least 5 participants, but not more than 10. At least a week lead time for our preparation. |

| BEGINNING KNITTING | Fee: $15/session | |
| We will learn to cast on, do the knit and purl stitches and bind off. By the end of the class, you will be on your way to a unique creation. Project may change from class to class. Check with us to determine yarn and needle needs. | ||

| BEGINNING SOCK KNITTING | Fee: $20/session | |
| If you are looking to learn to knit socks, you may join this class at any time. You can come back as often as you need and when you need the help. Each session you attend will cost $20.00, and you will need two 16-inch circular needles (size 2)* and 100 g of sock yarn. Please come in before your first class to pick out your yarn, have it wound, and pay for the class. *Unless otherwise noted, we teach sock knitting on two circulars. This lends itself better to later being able to knit two socks at a time. If you want to learn to do socks on double point needles or Magic Loop, please come in and arrange a time to have an individual class. *** Must be Advanced Beginner *** |

| KIDS’ KNITTING | Fee: $30 | |
| Kids love to learn to knit and pick it up faster than we grownups do. We will take up to 3 children, ages 8 and up, in each class, so advanced sign-up is necessary. This will be a very personalized class with each student progressing at an individual rate. Each class will consist of two sessions within one month. Classes can be repeated as often as desired, as long as there is space. | ||

| BEADED WINE BOTTLE COZY | Fee: $20 | |
| Knit with beads and create a bottle cozy for your favorite wine, olive oil or vinegar. These make great gifts for holiday gift giving. | ||

| If you need a little help on a project, you are welcome to come in and, as time permits, we will give you a hand. However, if your need for instruction will take more than 10 to 15 minutes, we would like you to sign up for Individualized Instruction. | ||

| TWO SOCKS ON TWO CIRCULARS | Fee: $20/session | |
| You will need two 16-inch circular needles* (size 2) and 100g of sock yarn wound into two small balls. Please come in before your first class to pick out your yarn, have it wound (please make sure we know you need two small balls), and pay for the class. *Unless otherwise noted, we teach two socks on circular needles. | BEGINNING LACE KNITTING | Fee: $45 | |
| Find out what the lace knitting craze is all about while making a lovely lace sampler scarf. This class consists of three sessions, and you will need to attend them all to complete the scarf. You will need 100g of lace or sock yarn and size 7 needles (circular or straight). Please come in before the first class to get your yarn, needles, and pay for the class. | ||

| BEGINNING CABLE KNITTING | Fee: $30 | |
| Always wanted to knit cables? Think they look too difficult? Come learn how easy they really are while making a beautiful scarf…perfect for either the man or woman in your life. You will need approximately 380 yards of worsted weight yarn (how about cashmere for a really soft scarf??), size 7 or 8 needles (straight or circular), a cable needle, and some stitch markers. Please come in before the first class to get your yarn, needles, and pay for the class. | ||

| FAIR ISLE KNITTING | Fee: $40 | |
| Fair Isle Knitting is worked with no more than two colors per row and is all knit in stockinette…how easy is that?? In the first session, we will learn how to twist the yarns to avoid holes in the fabric and try a small project to warm up. In the second session, we will create our own Fair Isle designs that can be used in a hat project. You will need… First session: small amounts of two worsted weight yarns and size 8 needles (straight or circular are both okay). Second session: In addition to the yarn and needles, it would be a good idea to bring a pencil with a good eraser. Please come in before the first session and pay for the class and any supplies you don’t have at home. |

| BEGINNING CROCHET | Fee: $15/session | |
| This class will consist of three sessions and teach you the basics of crochet. In the first session, you will learn the chain stitch, which is the basis of crochet. You will also learn how to attach beads, and you will create a beaded crocheted necklace. In the second and third sessions you will learn how to read patterns along with single and double crochet stitches and how to increase and decrease. You will end up with a cell phone case/soap pocket as a finished project. You will need the following: 1 skein pearl cotton A steel hook size 5 or 6 1 skein smooth, light colored worsted yarn A crochet hook size G or H (4.25 mm – 5.0 mm) 50 – 60 beads size 0/6 A beading needle (If you don’t have one, we will have some to share) You can find all the supplies you will need here at the shop. Please come in early to get them and to pay for the class. |

| AMANDA HAT | Fee: $20 | |
| With Malabrigo finally here, we needed a fun project to try it out. Chrissy found a really cute hat on Ravelry called "The Amanda Hat". It looks fantastic in the Malabrigo Worsted variegated. This is not a difficult project, but it would be helpful if you know how to decrease. Please come early to get your supplies and sign up. | ||

| FIXING MISTAKES | Fee: $10 | |
| We'll spend some time learning to fix some simple mistakes like dropped stitches, twisted stitches, miscrossed cables, and more. Also some thought about when NOT to correct a mistake and when things need to be frogged. | ||

| INTARSIA: A BEGINNING | Fee: $20 | |
| We'll do a small intarsia project...just enough to get the idea. You will need some stash yarn in several colors of the same weight. Smooth yarn is best to practice on. You will also need needles to match and a few yarn bobbins. If the yarn is cotton, you could make a nice face cloth or dish cloth. Please come early to get your supplies and sign up. | ||

| STITCHING WITH JAN | Fee: $15/session | |
| Jan Swafford comes to us with years of experience teaching an individualized knitting class. She will begin where you are and help you progress steadily. She takes only 5 students for each class, and YBTS has seen how devoted her students are. If you are interested, contact Jan directly at 475-6957 or come in an meet her and her students. | ||

| DROP STITCH SCARF | Fee: $15 | |
| Using a cotton/nylon ribbon yarn, we will stitch a simple drop-stitch scarf. This is a very simple scarf, and looks very impressive when completed. You will need to know how to do the knit stitch. Needles: size 9. Please come early to pick out your yarn. | ||
